Stretch marks are scars caused by the rupture of elastic fibers and collagen. These fibers are located in the deepest layer of the skin. The stria begins with an inflammatory process, so the red lines appear. The body begins to produce thicker collagen and the mark resembles a scar with a pearlescent color: melanin, a pigment that gives color to the skin, disappears.
Striae are linear, usually parallel, lesions that can range from one to several centimeters in extension. Initially, the lesions are reddish or rosy, evolving later to a whitish hue. In people with brown skin, the stretch marks may be darker than healthy skin. The skin in the affected area has loose consistency. Some people develop stretch marks even with little distention of the skin; others do not develop stretch marks even in pregnancy – when the distention of the skin is very large.
Stretch Marks Prevention
The vegetable oils and essential oils act as adjuncts in the treatment and help prevent new stretch marks.
Oil of Rosa Mosqueta
Fatty acids act on the cell membrane and allow better nutrition and act directly on the proliferative phase of healing. The antioxidants, such as polyphenols, vitamins C and E and carotenoids, protect new cells so that they are formed in the injured region that is regenerating. Vitamin E still has an antioxidant effect, so it protects the cells against damage caused by the dreaded free radicals, preventing aging and the appearance of stretch marks.
The rosehip oil has emollient property, so it keeps the skin soft and hydrated naturally, ensuring lubrication and nutrition of the skin, keeping it beautiful and healthy.
Grape seed oil
The grape seed oil is rich in vitamins C, D, E, beta carotene and antioxidants that help to strengthen the skin elasticity and reduce the formation of wrinkles. The oil is quickly absorbed and therefore can be used for any type of skin. It acts in the prevention of stretch marks. It has healing and regenerating action, besides being an excellent moisturizer.
In addition to vegetable oil, it can be used the essential oils that have antioxidant, healing and anti-inflammatory action. The most indicated are palmarosa, lavender and tea tree.
How to use vegetable oil?
Separate one tablespoon of vegetable oil, add 3 drops of essential oil and mix well. Pass the skin after bathing and massage until the oil is completely absorbed. Use daily. Continuous use helps prevent stretch marks.
Stretch Mark Creams
Creams act as aids in treatment, and are also good for prevention, as are vegetable oils.
Treatment of Striae
Most treatments are aimed at renewing the skin and increasing the production of collagen. The result is best in recent stretch marks. The exfoliation serves to make the surface skin peeling, promoting the growth of new skin. Another way to do the exfoliation is through a device that has the function of sanding the skin with a crystal or diamond tip. It occurs the desquamation of the skin that recovers the estria, stimulating its regeneration. A great advantage of this technique is that it also stimulates the production of elastin, which is responsible for the firmness and elasticity of the skin.
The result of the exfoliation is the increase of the stimulus for the formation of collagen and elastin, improving the quality of the skin. There are several effective anti-stretch marks techniques, and most doctors recommend using at least two of them in combination, so the results are superior to those achieved with single techniques. An exception is in some cases recent striations when using only one technique can be effective.
In addition to exfoliation, another form of treatment is the injection of substances that stimulate the formation of a new skin – such as glycolic acid, vitamin C and others. The injection is done along the whole stria, with fine needles, improving the local circulation and the production of proteins of the skin. This results in a reduction in the height and thickness of the striae. It takes several sessions, and the application can be painful. As in previous cases, exposure to the sun should be avoided.
The application of the laser also leads to the reduction of the blood vessels in the striae, reducing its purplish or pinkish coloration. It also leads to increased proteins in the skin. There are several sessions, with an interval of 15 days. This helps to reduce the appearance of the stria.
